  • Our friend and ally, the USB flash drive

    It’s often in our pockets or at the bottom of our bags, and it’s saved our necks more than we care to remember, but how much do we know about the humble USB flash drive? Like many other technological devices, the so-called “memory stick” has been quickly adopted by everyone as a helpful and easy way to store or transport files. Where did it come from?

    A little over ten years ago, the first commercial USB flash drives became available for purchase. The “ThumbDrive” was sold by Trek Technology, while IBM’s product “DiskOnKey” had five times the storage capacity of the popular floppy disks back in the day. Keep in mind that this was still only 8 MB, a fraction of what we’re currently used to carrying around every single day.
